It is with a heavy heart that we inform the community sector of the loss of one of its most beloved souls, Jemmy Martin from Donaghmoyne, who passed away this week. Jemmy was the beating heart of Donaghmoyne, and was known the length and breadth of the country (you usually saw him coming with his fundraising tin!!). He had time for everyone and helped so many groups along the way.
He will be laid to rest tomorrow in the graveyard at St Lastra’s church, just the other side of the hedge from the playground he helped to complete just two short years ago. As we walk the final journey with him, we will see his touch in the car parking, the kerbing, the stone piers which stand at the field entrances around the cross. We will remember him as we take a cup of tea in St Michael’s Church, which he led the drive to reclaim from dereliction to be restored to serve as a community centre for the area.
For a small man, Jemmy cast a very long shadow. It will be many years before his legacy fades from Donaghmoyne.
Removal tomorrow Friday at 10.30 to St Lastra’s for funeral mass at 11am.
