Co. Monaghan has one of the highest reported rates of domestic violence in Ireland. The PPN, the Women’s Network, the Equality sub-committee of the Local Community Development Committee, the Joint Policing Committee and Monaghan County Council would like to ask all community groups in Co Monaghan to please support a special campaign which will be running in Co Monaghan from 25th November to 10th December.
It’s called Orange the World – 16 Days of Activism to end Violence against Women & Girls. The Women’s Network are planning a number of events around the county over the 16 days, to highlight the issue. To bring the issue to the attention of the public, many public buildings will be turning orange for the 16 days, including all Monaghan County Council’s buildings. Monaghan County Council have some extra gels available, suitable for slipping over spotlights to turn a plain white light into a strong orange light – if your group would like to light up a prominent building or monument, to show your support for the campaign please contact Bernie Bradley on 047 73727 to make arrangements.
The women’s network would also like as many groups as possible to post photos in support of the Orange the World campaign. If you have an event planned over the 25 Nov-10 Dec period, please contact Leona, who has some promotional goodies which can be used in your photo, to get the message across. Feel free to get creative – break out your most orange outfit…….or maybe you’ve been looking for an excuse to use up that fake tan that turned out an oompa loompa shade….. 🙂
The Network is asking groups to take photos and post them to their own facebook pages etc. Please also post them to Monaghan County Council and Monaghan PPN’s facebook pages, to help to maximise the impact the campaign creates around the county.
