How Reps are Appointed

The Guidelines provided by the Dept outline the procedure to be followed for appointing community reps:

  • A request is sent to the PPN Secretariat by the body seeking the rep
  • The PPN Secretariat convenes a meeting for the purpose of appointing the rep.  All PPN member groups are invited to attend
  • Those who do attend the meeting elect the rep from amongst those in attendance
  • Those who attended become the Linkage Group for that rep position
  • The rep is supposed to feed back to their Linkage Group on a regular basis

The Local Government Reform Act 2014 states that all community and voluntary reps to Council committees should be sourced via the PPN.  This includes:

  • The four Strategic Policy Committees
  • The Joint Policing Committee
  • The Local Community Development Committee

Although not obliged to by law, the Guidelines also welcome the PPN being used as the source for reps onto other organisations, such as the Regional Drugs Task Forces, various HSE committees, Local Development Companies etc.  Requests for such nominations will be facilitated by Monaghan PPN.
