Joint Policing Committees were introduced in 2008 as a vehicle for the community, the local authority and the Gardaí to sit down together and discuss issues affecting policing and community safety in the local authority area.
The Term of the JPC coincides with the term of office of the County Council. There are SIX Community Reps on the new JPC, an increase from three on the last JPC.
The current JPC met for the first time in February 2015, and will spend much of 2015 devising a 6-year Strategy. The PPN will be assisting in the community consultation phase of this Strategy.
The JPC is set up along Guidelines issued by the Depts of Justice and Environment/ Local Govt.
